16 Days in WA | Stopping Family and Domestic Violence: Play your part.

Today marks the start of the 16 days in WA campaign, which runs from 25th November through to the 10th December. These are two important days on the calendar with the 25th November being International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the 10th December being Human Rights Day.

The 2024 campaign theme is Stopping Family and Domestic Violence: Play your part.

Violence against anyone is unacceptable and we all have a responsibility to help stop the violence. SportWest calls on the sporting community to promote a message of RESPECT over these 16 days. Respect of officials, respect of the opposition and respect for the countless volunteers and administrators involved in sport but most importantly, respect for women.

Family and domestic violence, as a form of violence against women, continues to be a driver of gender inequality, including in the areas of employment, participation and financial security.

Gender roles and stereotyped constructions of masculinity and femininity are key drivers of violence against women.

Everyone has a role to play to eliminating violence against Women and it starts with eliminating gender inequality.
