In a testament to the growing interest in fostering gender equality within the WA Sports Industry, the Women of Sport Network Advisory Group is thrilled to announce the addition of its newest members. Following an overwhelming response to the expression of interest, we are delighted to welcome two individuals who embody passion, expertise, and a shared commitment to championing women’s involvement in sport.
Congratulations to Rebekah Yeow, Metropolitan Participation and Inclusion Lead at Hockey WA, and Sarah Jackson, Manager Commercial Partnerships at Rugby WA.
As the Community and Growth Lead – Club Development, Inclusion & Diversity at Hockey WA, Rebekah is responsible for promoting gender equity within the sports community. Hockey has a rich history of strong participation in both men’s and women’s hockey, and part of her responsibilities include overseeing inclusion and diversity initiatives to ensure that all individuals, regardless of background, feel welcome and supported in the sport.
In her previous role as the Fitness Officer at UWA Sport, Rebekah recognised and addressed barriers to female and non-binary students’ participation in fitness-related activities. Collaborating with the UWA Student Guild, Rebekah was responsible for the delivery of several masterclasses aimed at empowering female and non-binary students with the knowledge and skills to engage in fitness activities confidently. These sessions not only provided practical exercise guidance but also emphasised the importance of holistic wellness, including proper nutrition and rest.
“Coming through as a young female in the sports industry, I have appreciated the opportunities and doors that have been opened for me thanks to the work of the Women of Sport Network. I now wish to give back and contribute my time on the Women of Sport Network Advisory Group so that I can do the same for others in our industry.”
Sarah joins the Advisory Group with a background in corporate governance, stakeholder engagement, and social impact initiatives. With Bachelor qualifications in both Law and Human Resources, Sarah possesses a solid foundation for understanding social complexities, mitigating risks, and fostering sustainable relationships.
Her extensive experience in the mining services sector has honed her ability to navigate male-dominated industries and advocate for gender equity. Throughout her career, Sarah has demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing social performance strategies and leading community engagement portfolios for organisations such as Bankwest and Murdoch University. Additionally, her commitment to diversity and inclusion, coupled with a deep understanding of the challenges faced by women in traditionally male-dominated fields, positions her well to contribute meaningfully to the Women of Sport Network’s supportive environment for women working and volunteering in sport and advocating for gender equity.
“I am deeply passionate about gender equity and empowering women in all aspects of life, including traditionally male-dominated industries. Joining the Women of Sport Network Advisory Group presents an exciting opportunity to combine my professional expertise with my personal values.”
The Women of Sport Advisory Group extends its heartfelt gratitude to all those who expressed interest in joining the Network. Further opportunities to get involved are on the horizon, including mentorships, leadership programs and networking opportunities. More information will be available soon and we encourage the whole community to get involved.
