Local Sporting Stars | Congratulations Alyssa and Wendell

The WA Local Sports Stars Volunteer Recognition Program is proud to recognise two outstanding volunteers whose dedication is making a lasting impact in community sport.

At just 16 years old, Alyssa Bradbury is already a driving force within her club, volunteering as a coach, supporting fundraising activities, assisting with events and helping foster a positive club culture. Alyssa has also championed mental health awareness through the Mind Over Matter: Sport and Mental Health Symposium and volunteers as a youth leader and mental health speaker across multiple sporting communities.  Alyssa She is helping to shape a stronger sporting culture while inspiring the next generation of volunteers and leaders.

Also recognised, Wendell Calvin, the founding president of Perth’s Western Swifts badminton group. Through years of quiet and dedicated service, Wendell has helped create a welcoming and inclusive space for LGBTQIA+ participants, allies and players of all abilities. His leadership has been instrumental in building a thriving community centred on connection, belonging and participation, while his commitment to mentoring future leaders has helped ensure the long-term sustainability and success of the Western Swifts, creating a legacy that will continue to benefit the community for years to come.

Both Alyssa and Wendell embody the spirit of community sport, demonstrating how volunteers play a vital role in creating inclusive, welcoming and thriving sporting environments. Their contributions are helping strengthen communities and inspire future generations of volunteers across Western Australia.

Congratulations to Alyssa and Wendell on this well-deserved recognition.
