Following the SportWest Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 27 November 2024, SportWest is thrilled to announce two new Board Members have been elected by our Members for a term of three years, marking an exciting new chapter for the SportWest Board. The new Directors bring a wealth of expertise, passion, and a shared commitment to advancing sport at all levels across the state.
Karen Quigley-Mizen – Elected Board Member
Karen is a Chartered Accountant with over 14 years experience of corporate accounting, finance, and procurement experience at Rio Tinto. Karen’s active role in the Rio Tinto graduate mentoring program for young Chartered Accountants highlights her commitment to nurturing emerging talent. Additionally, as a passionate runner she participates in events organized by both Athletic West and the WA Marathon Club, which deepens her understanding of the athletic community. Her early involvement with the WA Ballet Company, where she mentored young dancers, further illustrates her dedication to supporting youth in sports.
Karen currently serves as Treasurer and Secretary of the Perth Track and Field Athletics Club, which she helped establish in 2015. Under her leadership, the club has rapidly grown to become the third largest in Western Australia, fostering competition and supporting international athletes. Furthermore, engaging with community charities, such as Guide Dogs WA and MSWA, reflects her commitment to making a positive impact beyond athletics.
Robyn Ferguson – Elected Board Member
Robyn is a lawyer with over 25 year’s experience working in corporate and commercial law. In her practice, she routinely advises boards on governance and compliance issues and provide advice as to implementation of client’s strategy including risk assessment and also transactional structuring and implementation.
Robyn is an equity partner and part of the leadership team at HopgoodGanim Lawyers, with significant experience as partner-in-charge of the Perth office and on executive committee. She is a strong advocate and mentor for junior lawyers and focus on mentoring their careers and developing experiences and with a focus on women in law and in community.
Robyn is a regular at sporting events including City to Surf and HBF Run for a Reason and Rottnest Channel Swim and participates in sporting fundraising events such as MACA 200 Ride for Cancer. She has held numerous volunteer roles across sporting organisations that her children have been involved in, including UWA Little Athletics, YMCC Hockey Club, Claremont Junior Football Club and community cricket.
SportWest would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to outgoing Deputy Chair, Emma Ramage, and Elected Director, Rob Clement. Their dedication, leadership, and invaluable contributions have significantly shaped SportWest’s journey. Emma’s strategic insights and Rob’s unwavering commitment have been instrumental in driving our mission forward. We are deeply thankful for their service and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
