SportWest, the Peak Body for Sport in Western Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Liam Twigger as it’s new chair.
With an extensive background in Community and Professional Sport; Investment Banking and Corporate Finance, Liam brings a wealth of knowledge to the Board of Directors. His leadership and strategic vision align seamlessly with SportWest’s mission to strengthen, promote, and advocate for the sports community of Western Australia.
The Board is thrilled to have appointed Liam as Chair and are extremely confident that he will only strengthen the evolution of SportWest, as we enter a new era of strategic planning.
Mr Twigger expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to contribute to SportWest’s ongoing success. “I am honoured to take on the role of Chair at SportWest and am eager to work with the dedicated board members, staff, and stakeholders to build upon the organization’s achievements. Together, we will continue to support and enhance the vibrant sports community that SportWest serves.”
SportWest Acting Chief Executive Officer, Ashleigh Apps welcomed Mr Twigger to the role. “I warmly welcome Liam, with his extensive leadership experience and connection to the sporting industry. The depth of experience and expertise of our board will continue to drive SportWest forward,” she said.
SportWest would like to acknowledge and thank outgoing Chair, Michael Beros. First elected to the Board in 2011, and subsequently elected as Chair in 2013, Michael has been re-elected by SportWest Members throughout his tenure. A feat that reflects the Member’s trust, deep respect, and appreciation of his work. Michael’s 12 years on the Board of SportWest demonstrates his unwavering dedication and contribution to the Western Australia sporting landscape.
“Michael’s passion to respectfully represent and advocate on behalf of the industry showcased his true leadership for SportWest. Michael believes on a visceral level that community sport is the fabric that brings us together and championed this throughout his tenure” Mrs Apps said.
Mr Twigger said, “Michael has been an outstanding leader and chair at SportWest and has built an incredible team and organisation. I look forward to building upon the platform of trust and capability Michael has established at SportWest and to leading the next phase of its growth and development.”

About Liam Twigger
Liam has over 30 years of experience in the fields of investment banking, corporate finance and the not for profit sector. After starting his career as a professional footballer with Swindon Town FC in the UK, he moved into corporate finance and established Macquarie Bank’s Bullion and Commodities division in Perth in 1994 before moving on to head up Bankers Trust’s investment banking activities in Western Australia. In 1999, Liam became a founding principal of PCF Capital Group, a WA based corporate advisory and investment banking business. PCF Capital Group merged with Argonaut Limited, a Perth based investment banking, stock broking and funds management business in July 2021 and Liam was appointed Deputy Chair.
At a community level, Liam has been involved in Surf Life Saving as an age manager and club finance director, in local soccer where he has coached junior sides and was the former Chair of Football West and more recently was on the Board of Governors with St Mary’s Anglican Girls School before stepping down this year after 8 years service.
He is currently chair of Lunnon Metals Limited (an ASX listed Kambalda nickel and gold mining and exploration company) and is Executive Director and Deputy Chair of Argonaut Limited.
