The winner of the Community Club of the Year receives the John Gilmour Medal.

Nominations for the Beyond Sport and Community Club categories have often resulted in nominees being eligible for both awards. From 2021 these two categories come together for the Community Club of the Year with the winning club receiving the John Gilmour Medal.

This award acknowledges clubs who in the past 12 months have assisted members or the local community to positively overcome individual, family or community challenges or adversity; are leading the way in creating inclusive and safe environments for people to connect, inspire and achieve together and make a positive impact on the local community.

Criteria on which the award will be judged include:

• How the club is leading the way in creating inclusive and safe environments for people to connect, inspire and achieve together.
• How the club has worked together to build resilience and overcome adversity, be it within the Club itself or the wider community;
• How the club has gone above and beyond to make a positive impact in the community.
• The outstanding achievements that have been made in and out of competition over the past 12 months.
• The nomination must have occurred in the 2021 nomination period.
• Nominees must be a sporting club affiliated to a member of SportWest and based in Western Australia.
• Nominations for this category can be made by SportWest Member organisations and sporting clubs with the endorsement their State Sport Association, who is a Member of SportWest.
