It is a fairly simple fact. Without the hard work and dedication of some 200,000 volunteers each and every week, community sport in WA does not happen.

There is no doubt in my mind that the theme for this year’s National Volunteer Week is particularly relevant for sport: Better Together.

If there is one thing we’ve realised during recent years, it’s the importance of sport to the community. We know communities and societies are built on the blood, sweat, tears, efforts and dedication of volunteers. Games aren’t played without volunteers.

SportWest’s message to the volunteers is: Thank You. Sport does not happen without you. Thank You for the role you play in delivering community sport. Thank You for building our communities and being the heartbeat of our society. And please understand that SportWest and all of the State Sporting Associations around Western Australia truly appreciate your efforts.
