Following its inauguration at the 2021 SportWest Awards, The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) Sports Administrator of the Year is back for a third year.
DLGSC Sports Administrator of the Year Award acknowledges the hard work and dedication of sports administrators from across the WA sport industry. The finalists for the award, as determined by the Community Sport Selection Panel, are: Troy Kirkham (Australian Rules Football), Abid Imam (Football), and Shayley McGurk-Davy (Hockey).
Troy Kirkham (Australian Rules Football)
Troy has had a remarkable and outstanding impact across the Sports Industry. In his role as Executive Manager Game Development & Community, Troy continues to be an industry leading innovator that develops programs and initiatives that have a substantial impact on enabling more Western Australians to participate and enjoy the benefits of sport. In addition to his day-to-day role, Troy sits on several committees and working groups to help provide insight from his experience and knowledge to ultimately support the WA Sports Industry, these include; Women of Sport Network Advisory Group, Mental Health Sport Advisory Group, True Sport Advisory Group, Concussion in Sport Advisory Group, Australian Sports Commission Expert Project Working Group and the West Australian Institute of Sport Stronger Pathways Steering Group.
Abid Imam (Football)
As the Football Operations Coordinator at Football West, Abid has played a significant role as the Volunteer and Workforce Manager at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 Perth/Boorloo. He managed a diverse team of over 400 Western Australian’s to help deliver a historic five FIFA world cup games across 8 venues. Abid has also been heavily involved with the Football Australia Club Changer Program to fundamentally transform WA clubs through the Sport Australia Game Plan portal to be more inclusive for women & girls. Abid has been active in contributing beyond his role for the benefit of the broader industry in WA. This includes being a member of the SportWest True Sport Advisory Group, and a Gymnastics WA Reconciliation Action Group Member.
Shayley McGurk-Davy (Hockey)
As the General Manager Game, Community, Pathways and Performance at Hockey WA, Shayley has been instrumental in the development of programs that enhance the Hockey experience from grass roots to elite performance. Shayley’s commitment to strengthening Hockey WA’s partnership with Healthway and delivery of key health messages is evident through the development of the Hockey for Health website hub and the transformation of the Fuel to Go & Play Café at the Perth Hockey Stadium. In addition to her role Hockey WA, Shayley is also the General Manager of the Perth Thundersticks Hockey One franchise, which sees her lead all elements of the Perth Thundersticks Program.
