Celebrating Equity in Sports: Extra Funding Allocated to Empower Women

SportWest is thrilled to announce the successful application for funding from Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) to increase the delivery the Women of Sport Network (WoSN) to the WA Sporting Industry. This WoSN program will provide dedicated networking and educational opportunities to Women working and Volunteering within Sport. The program will target specific cohorts of the industry, creating tailored support to their current level.

In 2022, in consultation with DLGSC and the volunteers who led the original Women of Sport, SportWest formed the WoSN Advisory Group. The newly formed WoSN Advisory Group combined the DLGSC Gender Diversity Advisory Group, and those involved in leading the Women of Sport initiative.

SportWest Acting CEO, Ashleigh Apps said “Building on the work that was completed by the WoSN advisory group in setting the strategic direction, this funding will allow SportWest to operationalise the plan over the coming 12 months, providing opportunities across education, training, networking and mentoring”.

Apps stated “We are incredibly grateful for the support and partnership from DLGSC in our endeavour to create a more inclusive and equitable sporting industry. The Women of Sport Network will not only provide valuable resources and support for women within the industry but also help to inspire the next generation of female leaders”.

Program details will be released within the coming weeks, with opportunities for individuals and organisations to nominate to be part of the program. Additionally, a number of events will be delivered, focusing on gender equity and inclusivity, with the first being the IWD Sport Forum hosted by SportWest on Friday 15 March. Tickets are on sale, with limited numbers remaining.

SportWest invites member organisations and individuals passionate about promoting gender equity to support us in the delivery of the Women of Sport Network and become catalysts for change. Together, we can create a more inclusive and equitable sporting environment where the whole industry has the opportunity to thrive.
