Sports Embrace the Inaugural Mental Health Champions Network Session

On Wednesday the 13th of March, the SportWest Mental Health Champions Network attended their first session out of SportHQ.

Invitees were treated to a two-hour workshop facilitated by The Tomorrow Architects, focusing on effective listening and engagement tools/strategies, challenging self to support others and much more. The innovative delivery model allowed the participants to engage and connect on a human level, whilst learning how to better understand the foundations to being a good Mental Health Champion in an organisation.

Rebekah Yeow from Hockey WA said, “The first Mental Health Champions Network session was fantastic. Tom from Tomorrow Architects delivered an impactful and practical workshop, equipping attendees with skills and activities applicable across various environments, from workplaces to sporting clubs and social settings.

She continued, “The session was thought-provoking, challenging, and ultimately rewarding. It’s encouraging to see SportWest spearheading professional development sessions like this whilst not only offering a platform for learning and upskilling but also for connecting with industry peers from other sporting organisations.”

Jasmine Cappellucci, True Sport Manager, noted that timing of the launch was crucial in continuing to deliver vital services and knowledge to the industry.

“We are thrilled to see the industry embrace the Mental Health Champions Network offering with such gusto! The launch of the network on 5 February has allowed the True Sport project to create ties between the existing learning opportunities in the eLearning and our Mental Health and Wellbeing Workshops.”

She noted, “We are excited to continue to work with our industry members to ensure that True Sport remains a project that is by the industry, for the industry, and this network will be a key group to ensure we stay in touch with the ever-changing mental health and wellbeing in sport landscape.”

The next Mental Health Champions Network session is scheduled for 19 June, with an e-connect component launching soon.
