SportWest proudly hosted the third RAP Rings session last Friday 22nd March at the home of the Fremantle Dockers Football Club in the Cockburn Aquatic and Recreation Centre.
With support from Reconciliation WA, the session aimed to work through breaking down stigma associated with a reconciliation journey for sporting organisations, and aimed to unite the representatives and inspire them to take small steps to starting (or continuing) their journey.
Matt Bamford, Partnerships and Memberships Manager at SportWest was delighted with the attendance and fruitful conversations that took place during the event.
“It’s really encouraging to see sports coming together to connect and learn about how we can better support and acknowledge our First Nations people through Sport. The conversations were really organic and full which is exactly what we were aiming for in this session.”
He continued, “SportWest, similar to many of our member organisations, is also starting our Reconciliation journey, so we’re glad we can walk alongside the organisations in this space.”
The attendees were also treated to a presentation from Jody Nunn, CEO of Reconciliation WA around what the Reconciliation Action Plan process is, as well as an insider journey from the team at Fremantle on all the small steps they’ve taken to remain committed to their vision of a reconciled Australian community.
The next RAP Ready workshop on 9 April being hosted by Reconciliation WA is open for registrations here. For more information on the RAP Rings sessions, please contact Matt Bamford on matt.bamford@sportwest.com.au or 0419 287 024.
