SportWest, the peak industry body for sport in Western Australia proudly launched its new industry-led initiative, True Sport in front of over 200 representatives. Guests included the Minister for Sport and Recreation, Hon. David Templeman MLA, Chief Executive Officer’s and leaders from State Sporting Associations, professional sports, elite athletes and government representatives, at Optus Stadium on Wednesday, 20th September 2023.
True Sport is a cohesive, all-sport approach to align values, culture and practices of sport delivery across WA and enrich the sport experience for all participants. It aims to encourage behaviour change, increase capacity and address industry challenges. Pairing external messaging with internal tools and resources, True Sport aims to embed behaviours to enrich the sport experience in WA.
The key initiatives to be launched will feature sector-specific training, resources and implementation guidance, while also allowing flexibility in delivery, catering for all sports, across the seasons, and across the state.
The Minister for Sport and Recreation, Hon. David Templeman MLA concluded the formalities, showing his support and commitment to True Sport and the benefits to the sporting community in WA. “True Sport is a wonderful initiative that has been designed for the industry, by the industry to enrich the sport experience in Western Australia. Importantly, True Sport will support our wonderful volunteers to successfully navigate the evolving needs of community sport and equip clubs to create behaviour change”.
Leaders from the West Australian sporting industry took part in a collective stance on the Premiership Terrace and in the stands of Optus Stadium in a show of unity and commitment to support True Sport and enrich the sporting experience for all West Australians.
